Good Food Month Sugar Hits

We were quite impressed by the sugar hits from last year's Good Food Month so we were eager to try several of them this time round. Much to our dismay, the price had gone up to $20 (from $15) and many of the options only included one dessert. Nonetheless we soldiered on...

Sugar Hit #1: One on 1 Brasserie, Radisson Hotel
We got off to a pretty good start with our first sugar hit at the Radisson Hotel. They had a nice selection of desserts with an interesting variety of flavours. The mixed berries were fresh and fruity, the creme brulee chunky and creamy and while the five spice panacotta was bit strange at first, the flavour really grew on you. The glass of dessert wine was a little on the small side but generally thumbs up all round.

Sugar Hit #2: Botanica Brasserie, Sheraton on the Park
We were also quite pleased with the sugar hit offered by Sheraton on the Park. The Alaska had chocolately ice cream centre covered with fluffy meringue. The pear was sweet, refreshing and o so cute! The only criticism was the size of the creme brulee. No sooner had the spoon cracked the toffee layer than it touched the bottom!

Sugar Hit #3: The Bar, Four Seasons Hotel
This one was a disappointment being more of a sugar poke than a sugar hit. Not only were the desserts incredibly small, but the quality was a bit lacking. The parfait was bland and the poppy seeds were a bit stale. The strawberry and basil gelee tasted like strawberry jam in a pre-made shortbread case. The pine nut and orange cake was nice but not good enough to warrant the $20 price tag.

So a disappointing end to this years sugar hits. Will we do it again next year? Maybe...
